This coaster is made from food contact approved, dishwasher proof birchwood veneer.
All the coasters are designed by Julia Nielsen. As well as protecting tables and other surfaces from hot mugs and water stains these little shards of design can change the look of a living room or dining setting in an instant.
Size: 90mm diameter & 3-4mm thick
Julia Nielsen has been a productive designer since 2003 when she started selling earrings made from leftover scraps of leather at Spitalfields market in London. Since then her company Hippstory has designed interior deco, paper goods, accessories and jewellery, which are sold mainly in museum shops around the world, among others Tate in London and MoMa in New York.
Hippstory refuses to stay within in the boundary of typical Scandinavian form with grey, black and white. She loves colour. Julia’s backgrund in graphic design and illustration is apparent in the products which often have a surface pattern of motif. Her favourite material is FSC approved birchwood veneer which is pressed on a neighbouring island called Öland. She strives in all areas to keep carbon footprint to a minimum.
New York Times and Vogue called Hippstory’s colourful workshop and shop the most exciting place in Stockholm ’Sofo’. In 2019 Hippstory moved from Stockholm to the beautiful island Gotland in the Baltic Sea and became a part of the island’s the rich craft and design industry.
